Book Introduction

The study explores the effects of changes in social ideology, systems, and cultural characteristics on consciousness, behavior, and lifestyle changes of North Korean defectors after relocation to the South. It examines the adaptation patterns and mechanisms that emerge among North Korean defector families in the process. The author also presented policy countermeasures against the problems of adjustment to South Korean society, which are obstacles to finding and helping North Korean defectors heal their psychological traumas.

Beyond these research achievements, the researchers found evidence of hope among defectors despite significant confusion and hardship. This hope emerged from the love and devotion of North Korean parents and children, as well as the family love embodied in the trust between husband and wife. This hope was exerted through the power of individuals and family lesions to overcome the hardships of life.
