2016.10.18

Seoul National University Unification Studies Series – 29

Authors: Kim Do-han, Shin Jeong-sun.

The book investigates and analyzes the current state of North Korea’s mathematics research and manpower through the analysis of articles published in North Korea’s mathematics journals and notices published by the Academy of Sciences of the DPRK. This book analyzes North Korea’s basic science policy, especially its research direction and its focus on mathematics. Additionally, a survey was conducted for the merging of mathematical terminology in order to ensure the balanced development of mathematics research in North and South Korea. The book also provides basic data in a comprehensive database of North Korean mathematics data. This could be used as a basic source of information for upcoming academic exchanges, as well as assist in the unification of the two Koreas in the field of mathematics. This book also suggests methods of cooperation via academic exchanges between the two Koreas, as well as with the Chochongyeon (DPRK citizens residing in Japan who are descendants of Korean laborers moved to Japan during the occupation period).
