- Non-profit research institute founded in 2006, dedicated to peace studies
- Affiliated with and located in Seoul National University, South Korea
- Financed on a project basis with funding from the National Research Foundation, Ministry of Unification, and Seoul National University
- Develops global partnerships for academic collaboration through MoUs, international conferences, and exchange programs
- Publishes two journals: Unification and Peace (KCI-indexed) and the Asian Journal of Peacebuilding (SCOPUS-indexed)
- Conducts annual surveys to measure social changes in North Korea and North and South Korean residents’ perception toward Unification
- Publishes the annual integration index between North and South Koreas
- Engages in a broad range of teaching with the Unification Academy, the Peace Academy, and the Leading University Project for Unification Education
- Involves and communicates with various players in the field of peace studies, such as academic institutions, NGOs, governmental agencies, and civil society members
- Accumulates and provides statistical data on issues related to unification and peace
- Facilitates academic cooperation and network-building among different research centers at SNU for transdisciplinary and innovative approaches in peace studies
- Comprises six Humanities Korea faculty members, four Ph.D. research fellows, ten research assistants, and three administrative staff members
- Relocated in the summer of 2020 to the newly developed Siheung SNU Campus, which promotes “Campus for Peace and Unification” as one of its mottoes
