Donghwan An is the Head of Agricultural and Resource Economics major in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development at the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Seoul National University (SNU). He is currently a Vice President of Korean Society of Rural Planning, and also a board member of Korea Agricultural Economics Association and Korean Association of Agricultural and Food Policy. He served as an Associate Dean of Planning for College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, a Deputy Director of the Institute for Peace and Unification Studies, and a Senior Research Manager of the Institute of North Korean and Foreign Agriculture.

His main academic research areas include rural development, international agricultural cooperation, food security and agricultural development in North Korea, foreign agricultural development investment, and climate change and agriculture. He published many articles in academic peer-reviewed journals such as Korean Journal of Agricultural Economics, Korean Journal of Agricultural Management and Policy, Journal of Rural Development, Journal of Korean Society of Rural Planning, Sustainability, and Asian Economic Journal. He received Ph.D. from the University of Southern California and Seoul National University.

Short bio.

Sung-Hoon Ahn received a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 1992, an M.A.Sc. in Aeronautics and Astronautics from the Stanford University in 1994, and a Ph.D. in Aeronautics and Astronautics (minor in Mechanical Engineering) from the Stanford University in 1997. He was a faculty of Gyeongsang National University (2000- 2003) before joining Seoul National University (SNU) in 2003. He has been a Full Professor of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at SNU since 2010. He has also served as an Outside Director of Hyundai WIA Corporation since 2019.

Ahn’s research interests are in smart factory, 3D printing, soft robotics, micro/nano fabrication, green manufacturing, and appropriate technology. He published over 290 journal-class articles in these areas. For his research accomplishments, he has been honored with Sinyang Engineering Award from the College of Engineering and Sinyang Foundation, Seoul National University in 2010, Gaheon Award from Korean Society for Precision Engineering, Gaheon Foundation in 2011, Seoul National University Education Award from Seoul National University in 2012, a Certificate of Commendation Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning, Korea in 2015, an Academic Contribution Award from Korean Society of Composite Materials in 2017, and Presidential Commendation, Republic of Korea in 2018. Short bio.

Gyubin Choi is a Senior Researcher at the Institute for Peace and Unification Studies (IPUS) at Seoul National University. He received his BA in Politics and Management from Handong Global University, South Korea, MA in international development from the University of Manchester, UK, and his Ph.D. in international relations from the University of Leeds, UK.

His research interests focus on inter-Korean relations and peace agendas on the Korean peninsula and East Asia. He is also interested in economic statecraft, an engagement approach, the 2030 agenda for sustainable development, and broader international relations of the Asia-Pacific. He is currently participating in research projects titled “Development Cooperation and Humanitarian assistance for Sustaining Peace” and “Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for the Korean Peninsula”.

Jin-Yong Choi is a Professor at College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Seoul National University (SNU). He is currently a President of Korea Society of Agricultural Engineers, and a board member of KCID (Korean Committee of Irrigation and Drainage) and KSRP (Korea Society of Rural Planning). He serves as an associate editor of Irrigation and Drainage journal and a chief managing editor of Paddy and Water Environment journal. At SNU, he had served as an Associate Dean of Planning and Coordination in College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and a Deputy Director General of Institutes of Green Bio Science and Technology. He has been involved in various ODA project formulation and evaluation in agricultural sector, with agricultural water specialty.

He has a specialty in irrigation and drainage engineering on agricultural water resources management. His research career has also devoted in the interdisciplinary research on ICT application, climate change, Nexus etc. to agricultural water management. He published more than 100 papers in the Korean and international peer-reviewed journals. He received his Ph.D. from Seoul National University and researched at Agricultural and Biological Engineering Department in Purdue University (2000-2005). As a leading project manager, he has been implementing national research projects related with climate change impact on agricultural water resources, water footprint, agricultural reservoir operation, ICT application and Water-Food-Energy Nexus.

Hae Sung Chun joined the Institute for Peace and Unification Studies at Seoul National University in September 2019 as a Senior Research Fellow. He is also a Senior Advisor of the Institute for National Security Strategy. His decades-long public career at the Ministry of Unification (MOU) of the Republic of Korea paved his expertise for his main research areas which include inter-Korean relations, unification policy and North Korea studies.

In the public sector, he left the MOU in 2019 after serving as a Vice Minister since 2017. In September 2018, he was appointed as a ROK Chief of the inter-Korean Joint Liaison office, newly established in Kaesung, North Korea according to inter-Korean summit agreement in April 2018. During his term as a Vice Minister/Chief of the Liaison Office, Mr. Chun led a team in charge of crafting policy and negotiation strategy toward North Korea and served as a chief negotiator of ROK delegation at many major inter-Korean talks. He participated as a ROK representative in President’s special envoy visits to North Korea in 2018. Prior to being appointed as a Vice Minister, Mr. Chun held various Deputy Minister-level positions, including Head of the Office of Inter-Korean Dialogue, Deputy Minister for Unification Policy and Spokesperson. He began his public career in 1987 after he passed the civil service exam for fifth grade civil servants.

Mr. Chun earned his bachelor’s degree in law and master’s degree in public administration from Seoul National University.

Short bio.

SSok Chul Hong earned his BA and MA in economics from Seoul National University, and a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Chicago in 2007. He worked for the University of Chicago and Sogang University, and since 2016, he has been a professor of economics at Seoul National University.

His main research interest is to identify the association between health and development. It is well known that individual health is a fundamental element of human capital accumulation and population health status is the significant driving force for economic development. Therefore, identifying the factors that affect individual and population health and striving to improve them are essential to economic development.

In particular, he has studied the topic from long-term perspectives. His research has focused on how early-life experiences like exposures to disease environment can affect health and human capital over a course of life and over generations. He published a book titled “The Changing Body: Health, Nutrition, and Human Development in the Western World since 1700” at Cambridge University Press in 2011.

Regarding peace studies, he is interested in studying the long-term impact of experiences of wars and regional conflicts in early life on health and economic development at individual and national levels.

Booyuel Kim is an Associate Professor of Graduate School of Environmental Studies at Seoul National University. He received a B.A. in Economics from Handong University in 2003, a M.A. in International Affairs and a Ph.D. in Sustainable Development from Columbia University in 2009 and 2014, respectively. After completing his Ph.D., he worked as a post-doctoral research scholar at the Earth Institute of Columbia Univeristy while participating in the Millennium Villages Project and the One Million Community Health Workers Campaign. From 2015 to 2020 he worked as an assistant professor at KDI School of Public Policy and Management.

His research interests span health and education issues in the developing countries as well as in Korea. As the principal investigator, he has been in charge of evaluating the following field experiments: girls’ education support project and HIV/AIDS prevention project in Malawi (since 2010), rural community-driven development project in Cambodia and Myanmar (since 2015), and an A.I.-backed adaptive learning project in Vietnam (since 2018).

He published many articles in academic journals and in policy reports. His recent publications include ‘How does Learner-Centered Education affect Teacher Self-Efficacy? The case of Project-Based Learning in Korea (Teaching and Teacher Education, 2019)’, ‘The Role of Education Interventions in Improving Economic Rationality (Science, 2018)’, and ‘Short-Term Impacts of a Cash Transfer Program for Girls’ Education on Academic Outcomes: Evidence from a Randomized Evaluation in Malawian Secondary Schools (Seoul Journal of Economics, 2016)’.

Bumsoo Kim is a Professor of the College of Liberal Studies and Vice Director of the Institute for Peace and Unification Studies, Seoul National University (SNU). At SNU, he also served as an Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, and an Associate Dean of Student Affairs of the College of Liberal Studies. In academia, he currently serves as a secretary general of the Korean Political Science Association. Previously, he was an executive secretary of the Korean Association of International Studies, secretary general of the Korean Society for Political Thought, and the president of the Korean Society for Governance Research. In public sector, he currently serves as a committee member of the Korean Government’s Policy Committee for Overseas Compatriots and was a consultant member of the Consulting Committee for Restructuring of University, the Korean Ministry of Education. He taught at the Jackson School of International Studies, the University of Washington as the Y.T. Shim Endowed Visiting Professor and was a foreign research scholar at the Institute of Social Science, University of Tokyo.

His main academic research areas include nationalism, multiculturalism, human rights, identity politics, citizenship, and many other issues of contemporary political theory. His articles appear in many academic peer-reviewed journals such as Journal of Korean Studies, Ethnic and Racial Studies, and Social Science Japan Journal. He received his Ph.D. in political science from the University of Chicago and M.A. in political science from the University of Chicago and Seoul National University.

Byung-Yeon Kim is a Professor in the Department of Economics at Seoul National University (SNU). His research interests lie in the fields of transition economics and applied econometrics, in particular with reference to North Korea as well as former socialist countries. He received his B.A. and M.A. from SNU and his D.Phil. from the University of Oxford. He has served as a member of various government committees including the National Economic Advisory Council, the Presidential Committee for Unification Preparation and the Advisory Committee for the Korean Summit and is currently a member of the Policy Advisory Committee for the Ministries of Unification and Foreign Affairs.

He published a number of articles in international journals such as the Journal of Comparative Economics, Journal of Economic History and the British Journal of Political Science. His new book on the North Korean economy was recently published by Cambridge University Press (Unveiling the North Korean Economy, 2017). He has written numerous book chapters, books, and journal articles on the North Korean economy. He has received several prestigious academic awards such as Excellence in Academic Achievements granted by the National Academy of Sciences of Rep. of Korea, SNU Award for Distinguished Researcher, NEAR Award, T. S. Ashton Prize (the British Economic History Society), and Chungram Award (the Korean Economic Association).

Joohyung Kim is an Associate Professor of political science at Seoul National University. At SNU, Joohyung served as a member of the advisory committee for University Newspaper and the Director of Graduate Studies in the Department of Political Science and International Relations. He was also a board member of Korean Political Science Association and Korean Society for Political Thought.

Joohyung received his PhD from Indiana University, Bloomington, USA and served as a visiting researcher at Technische Universität Darmstadt and Universität Hamburg in Germany. He taught at two campuses of Indiana University before joining SNU. Joohyung’s academic interests include critical and democratic theory, continental political philosophy, and social theory. In the future, Joohyung plans to expand his research into a theoretically informed reading of contemporary Korean politics, particularly after the democratization in 1987.

Sun-Young Kim is an Associate Professor of Global Health at the Graduate School of Public Health, Seoul National University (SNU). She currently serves as a Vice-Director of the SNU Center for Global Health Research and an executive board member of the Korean Society of Global Health. She obtained a B.S. in Pharmacy and an M.P.H. in Health Economics from Seoul National University, and received her Ph.D. in Health Policy (specializing in Global Health and Decision Sciences) from Harvard University. Over the past 20 years, she has been involved with various global-level projects, supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Pan American Health Organization, or U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention, to evaluate the impact of global health policies on improving children’s and women’s health in less-developed countries. She was also a faculty member at the University of Texas, School of Public Health. Her recent research interests include global health policy, diseases of poverty, impact evaluation of global health programs, gender inequity in global health, refugee health, and health systems in fragile and conflict-affected states.

Sung Chull Kim is Humanities Korea Professor at the Institute for Peace and Unification Studies, Seoul National University (2012-present). Before holding this position, he served as a senior fellow at the Korea Institute for National Unification (1992-2003) and a professor at the Hiroshima Peace Institute—Hiroshima City University (2003-2012). He currently serves as an editor of Asian Journal of Peacebuilding (AJP), a peer-reviewed semi-annual journal published at the Institute for Peace and Unification Studies, Seoul National University. AJP is indexed at SCOPUS and KCI, and its contents are available or abstracted at EBSCO, ProQuest, International Political Science Abstracts, etc.

Kim’s research interests include alliance politics, non-proliferation, state violence, and North Korean politics. He now works on a new book manuscript entitled China and Its Small Neighbors: Asymmetry, Vulnerability, and Survival Strategy (State University of New York Press, forthcoming 2021). He has contributed articles to journals including Systems Research and Behavioral Science (formerly Behavioral Science), Pacific Review, Asian Studies Review, Eastern European Politics, Development and Society, and Issues and Studies. Along the line of his research interests, Kim has served as a reviewer of articles for Asia Policy, Asian Survey, Comparative Political Studies, Foreign Policy Analysis, International Journal of Korean Unification Studies, Journal of Comparative Politics, Journal of North Korean Studies, Journal of Peace Studies, and Pacific Review. He received Ph.D. in political science from the University of California-Irvine in 1991.

Taekyoon Kim is an Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and a Professor of International Development at the Graduate School of International Studies, Seoul National University. He is currently an executive secretary of Korea Association of International Studies and a former board member of Korean Association for International Development and Cooperation, Korean Sociological Association, Korea Association for Policy Studies, and Critical Sociological Association. In the public sector, he currently serves as a policy advisor for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, an ODA expert for Korea International Cooperation Agency, and a resource person for the UN Office for Sustainable Development, UNESCO and UNDP Seoul Policy Center. In the academic field, he has been participating in numerous academic institutes such as UNRISD as a collaborating researcher, Goethe University's AFRASO as a co-researcher, Tuebingen University's Global South Project as a co-organizer, and RC18 of International Political Science Association as one of the board members. In the civic sector, he is now the Chairperson of International Affairs at the Citizens' Coalition for Economic Justice.

His main academic research areas include international development, global governance and international political sociology. His articles have appeared in many academic peer-reviewed journals such as International Sociology, Journal of Democracy, Global Governance, and International Relations of the Asia-Pacific. He received D.Phil from the University of Oxford and Ph.D. from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. He taught as a visiting professor at the University of Paris IV (Sorbonne), and an assistant professor at Waseda University and Ewha Womans University.

Min Gyo Koo is a Professor in the Graduate School of Public Administration at Seoul National University (SNU). His research interests include East Asian political economy and maritime affairs. He is the author of The Political Economy and Law of International Trade: Between Free Trade Ideals and Mercantilist Bias (with Byung-Sun Choi, 2019, Parkyoungsa, in Korean), Island Disputes and Maritime Regime Building in East Asia: Between a Rock and a Hard Place (2010, Springer). He has also co-edited The Korean Government and Public Policies in a Development Nexus: Sustaining Development and Tackling Policy Changes – Volume 2 (Jongwon Choi and Huck-ju Kwon, 2010, Springer), The Korean Government and Public Policies in a Development Nexus – Volume 1 (with Huck-ju Kwon, 2013, Springer), and Asia’s New Institutional Architecture: Evolving Structures for Managing Trade, Financial, and Security Relations (with Vinod K. Youngsang Kwon is a Professor of urban planning and urban design at Seoul National University. He is currently in charge of Innovative Talent Education Program for Smart City Project of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and is the director of the Smart City Research Center of the Seoul National University Advanced Institute of Convergence Technology. He has researched sustainable urban planning and policies at the National Research Institute of Korea Research Institute of Human Settlement and the Architecture and Urban Research Institute. He participated in various new city plans including “Sejong City”, “Saemangeum New City”, etc. and research projects such as urban regeneration, smart city, and overseas urban development. As a visiting scholar at the University of California at Berkeley, he researched sustainable development and planning in Asian cities.

His main research interest is the sustainable development of Asian urban areas. Asia's urban population is growing rapidly, and most of the world's urban development is now under way in Asia. He is interested in sustainable development strategies while maintaining the historical and social identity of Asian cities. He is a member of the Asia Planning Schools Association (APSA) and the Inter University Symposium of Asian Megacities (IUSAM). He has published several papers on urban development and housing problems in Vietnam, which has a rapid development among Asian cities and has close ties with Korea, and conducted comparative studies on transportation and walking problems in cities around the world. The international joint research is conducted to compare the urban situation between Germany, which has undergone the unification process, and Korea, which is currently divided.

Hyo-Won LEE is a Professor at School of Law, Seoul National University. His research interests are legal issues related to constitutional law and Korean unification law. He received his Ph.D. from Seoul National University, South Korea. He has recently published three Korean books: Understanding on Constitutional Law of Korean Unification (2016), Understanding on Korean Unification Law (2018), and Peace and Law (2018). Kyung Hoon Leem is a Professor of Department of Political Science and International Relations, College of Social Sciences, Seoul National University (SNU). Professor Leem now serves as a Director of the Institute for Peace and Unification Studies, SNU. He is a trained Comparative Political Scientist and is fond of reading and discussing the history of democratic ideas. Previously at SNU, Leem served as a Chairman of the Department of Political Science, an Associate Dean of Academic Affairs for College of Social Sciences, an Associate Dean of Academic Affairs for University Administration, a Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning, and a Director of SNU Newspaper.

He earned his Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Chicago. His research interests include Democratization and Economic Reform, Russian Politics, Comparative Post-communist Transitions, and Political and Economic Changes in North Korea.

Yoon Ah Oh is an Assistant Professor at the Graduate School of International Studies (GSIS), Seoul National University. Before she joined the GSIS in 2019, Professor Oh was a fellow at the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP), where she conducted research on Southeast Asian economies and Korea-ASEAN economic relations.

Professor Oh received her Ph.D. in Political Science from the Ohio State University and her M.A. and B.A. degrees in Political Science from the National University of Singapore and Seoul National University. She is a specialist on Southeast Asia and studies the intersection of political conditions and economic development in the region. She is also interested in Southeast Asia’s regional integration and its external relations, most notably involving China.

Mi Sun Park is an Associate Professor of Environmental and Forest Policy at the Graduate School of International Agricultural Technology, Seoul National University (SNU). She works as a Coordinating Lead Author of IPBES (Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services) under the Sustainable Use of Wild Species. She is a Board member of Journal of Forest Research (Springer). In the public sector, she currently serves as a policy advisor for the Korea Forest Service.

She gives lectures on forest/agricultural/environmental policy and governance, environmental management and policy analysis methodologies. Her research interests include governance/ regime, discourse and communication, policy strategies and instruments, international cooperation in forest management. Her main academic research areas include natural resource management, agroforestry, global governance, and international cooperation in the field of environmental and forest policy. She published many articles in academic peer-reviewed journals such as Forest Policy and Economics, Urban Forestry and Urban Greening, Sustainability, Forest Research and so on. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Göttingen in Germany. She was an Assistant Professor at Konkuk University, Republic of Korea.

Prof. Rokjin Park received his Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences from University of Maryland, USA. He is now a full professor in School of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Seoul National University. His research interests lie in chemical composition of the atmosphere and its perturbation by human activity, with consequences ranging from regional air pollution to global climate change. His focus is on modeling studies of air chemistry using 3D global and regional models of atmospheric chemistry, together with analyses of various atmospheric observations including aircraft, satellite, and surface networks, to address issues related to chemical composition, emission sources, transport of pollution and climate forcing by ozone and aerosols.

He was a member of scientific committee for International Global Atmospheric Chemistry (IGAC) for 2010-2014 and organized the session (Atmospheric chemistry in a changing climate) for the 2014 biennial meeting in Natal, Brazil. He was also a member of the GEOS-Chem Steering Committee for 2007-2011, and led aerosols working group and regional modeling working group sessions at the biannual International GEOS-Chem Users’ Meetings at Harvard University (2007, 2009, 2011). Through his research with the satellite mission in Korea, he is a member of GEMS science team. He was recently appointed as a member of technology advisory committee for Korea Institute of Atmospheric Prediction Systems (KIAPS), which is responsible for developing a numerical weather prediction model, optimized for the Korean Peninsula. He has been an editor for Asia-Pacific Journal of Atmospheric Sciences, which is an international journal co-published by Springer and the Korean Meteorological Society.

Dr. Sang Min Park received his M.D. degrees from College of Medicine, Seoul National University (SNU) in 1999, and received his M.P.H. from School of Public Health, SNU in 2004. His mentor in M.P.H. degree was Professor Soonman Kwon, and he was trained in epidemiologic simulation modeling and economic evaluation.

Dr. Park received his Ph.D. from Seoul National University College of Medicine (2004-2006), and was trained by Professor Bong Yul Huh in cancer epidemiology to identify the risk factors of second primary cancer among cancer survivors. He served as a Director of the Department of Quality of Cancer Care at the Korean National Cancer Center (2005-2007). He was a Takemi fellow at the Harvard School of Public Health, Boston, USA (2007-2008), and had two mentors. One was Professor Michael Reich in the area of international health, and the other was Professor Craig C. Earle in the area of epidemiologic simulation modeling of cancer and cost-economic analysis. During the Takemi fellowship program, he also had been trained in systemic review and meta-analysis.

Dr. Park joined Seoul National University College of Medicine as an Assistant Professor in April 2009, and was appointed as a Chief of Department of Family Medicine in 2016. Professor Sang Min Park is specialized in health system data science using health big data and epidemiologic simulation modeling, and health promotion for cancer survivors including prevention and early screening of second primary cancer, quality care for chronic disease, and improvement of quality of life. He is also specialized in public health policy for vulnerable population and global health (North Korean health aid, in particular).

He was a visiting fellow at the East-West Center DC, a CNAPS fellow at the Brookings Institution, an assistant research professor at Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies (APCSS), Honolulu, Hawaii and a research fellow at the Institute for Foreign Policy Analysis (IFPA), Cambridge, Mass, U.S.A. He taught at the University of Massachusetts Boston. In addition, he advised various government organizations including the ROK National Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Unification, and the ROK National Assembly. His research interests include International Security, US Foreign Policy, Northeast Asian Politics and the Korean Peninsula. Professor Sheen received Ph.D. and M.A. from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University and B.A. from Seoul National University.

Short bio.

HaeRan Shin is a Professor in the Department of Geography at Seoul National University (SNU). She focuses on the areas of political geography and migrant studies. She has examined the politics of urban development cases, including culture-led urban regeneration, new towns, eco-cities, and risk perception. Based on actor-focused approaches, she has explored how specifically different actors form and develop power relations and adaptive preferences in cultural economy. She has also worked on the issues of transnational migrants and refugees, the dynamics of mobilities, and the territoriality of their networks and ethnic enclaves. For her research on urban politics and migrant studies, she has used qualitative research methods including in-depth interviews, participant observations, focus groups, discourse analyses, and archival analyses. In recent years, she has focused on the transnational ethnic networks of North Korean defectors who live outside the Korean Peninsula. She has published a monograph The Cultural Politics of Urban Development in South Korea – Art, Memory and Urban Boosterism in Gwangju (Routledge) and a number of studies in international academic journals including Annals, Political Geography, and Urban Studies. She received her Ph.D. in Planning from the University of Southern California. She taught at University College London before teaching in South Korea since September 2013.

Jiewuh Song is an Associate Professor of Political Science and International Relations at Seoul National University (SNU). Song works on issues at the intersection of law, philosophy, and politics, and has particular interests in the political philosophy of international law. She received a J.D. from Harvard Law School, a Ph.D. in philosophy from Harvard University, and a B.A. in sociology from SNU. Before returning to SNU to teach, Song held postdoctoral positions at the Justitia Amplificata Centre at the Goethe University Frankfurt and the MacMillan Center for International and Area Studies at Yale University.

Jihyun Yoon is an Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and a Professor in the Department of Food and Nutrition, College of Human Ecology, Seoul National University (SNU). Before joining SNU in 2003, she worked as a program specialist at the Child Nutrition Division of Texas Education Agency, Austin, Texas, USA. As a director of the Office of Nutrition Policy for North Korea at SNU Research Institute of Human Ecology, she has been actively involved in the food aids and nutrition intervention programs for North Korea by the South Korean government, NGOs, and UN agencies since 2007.

Her main academic research areas include food and nutrition policy, nutrition standards and programs, and sustainable food system and diet. She has published many articles in academic peer-reviewed journals such as Nutrients, Nutrition Research and Practice, Asia-Pacific Journal of Public Health, Asia Pacific Journal of Clinical Nutrition, Health Promotion International, British Food Journal, and Appetite. Currently, she serves as an editor-in-chief of Journal of East Asian Society of Dietary Culture. She graduated from Seoul National University, majoring in ‘food and nutrition’ and ‘business administration.’ She obtained master’s degree from Iowa State University and doctoral degree from Purdue University, specializing in food service and nutrition for children. She was a visiting professor at Kagawa Nutrition University in Japan.
