Donghwan An is the Head of Agricultural and Resource Economics major in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development at the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Seoul National University (SNU). He is currently a Vice President of Korea Agricultural Economics Association and Korean Society of Rural Planning, and also the board member of Korean Association of Agricultural and Food Policy. He served as an Associate Dean of Planning for College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and now serves as the Deputy Director of the Institute for Peace and Unification Studies and the Senior Research Manager of the Institute of The Institute of North Korean and Foreign Agriculture.
His main academic research areas include rural and regional development, international agricultural cooperation, food security and agricultural development in North Korea, foreign agricultural development investment, and climate change and agriculture. He published many articles in academic peer-reviewed journals such as Korean Journal of Agricultural Economics, Journal of Rural Development, Journal of Korean Society of Rural Planning, Sustainability, and Asian Economic Journal. He received Ph.D. from the University of Southern California and Seoul National University. He also taught as a visiting professor at the University of Southern California.
